1. Trim is your best friend. It’s the tool students under-use most. When you’re fighting to hold altitude with muscle, stop fighting - trim the pressure away until the airplane wants to hold the attitude on its own. A properly trimmed airplane in slow flight will nearly fly hands-off, and that free attention is worth everything.

2. Power for altitude, pitch for airspeed - say it out loud. Sinking? Add power, don’t yank the nose up. Getting slow toward the horn? Lower the nose a touch. Behind the power curve, that’s the language the airplane speaks. Train your hands to speak it back.

3. Use the whole configuration. Practice clean, and practice with flaps down and gear down if you fly retractable. The sight picture and feel change with every configuration. The examiner may ask you to reconfigure while you’re in there - so practice the transitions, not just the steady state. That’s where people fall apart.

4. Clear the area every single time. Slow flight is high angle of attack and low energy; let it get away from you and it becomes a stall or a spin entry. Do your clearing turns, look for traffic, know what’s below you, and keep your eyes outside. The pilot who skips the clearing turn is the pilot who should scare you.

Slow flight usually sits in the middle of the maneuvers block, bundled with stalls. Applicants rarely bust it because they can’t fly slow. They bust it because they get sloppy on tolerances when nervous, trigger the stall warning and fail to correct, or fixate on airspeed and let the altitude wander.

The fix isn’t more knowledge - you already know what slow flight is. The fix is repetition until the airplane feels like an extension of your body at the slow end. Do it ten times. Then ten more. Do it until the soft controls feel normal, until you can hold 90 knots, hold altitude, hold heading, and still have spare mental room to chat about what you had for breakfast.
