Glacier Girl’s First Flight
In 2002, 60 years after serial number 41-7630 last left the ground, Glacier Girl flew.
The P-38, painted in the olive drab and neutral gray of the wartime Eighth Air Force, lifted off and climbed away clean. Both Allison engines ran. The aircraft that had spent half a century under the Greenland ice was airworthy.
Glacier Girl has since flown at airshows across the country, and remains airworthy today.
