About Radio Hangar

Radio Hangar is an aviation talk station built by a pilot who wanted more aviation content in the world. Meet the team, the hosts, and the mission.

Radio Hangar is a 24/7 aviation talk station and publication built by Matt Carlson, a private pilot based in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. The station produces original aviation content every day covering flight training, technology, history, news, and the culture of general aviation.

Why Radio Hangar Exists

There are thousands of radio stations. A handful cover aviation. None of them offer daily, original, talk-format programming built for GA pilots.

Matt built Radio Hangar to fill that gap. The station exists because he wanted to listen to something that didn’t exist yet: an aviation talk station that covers the topics pilots actually care about, from checkride prep to warbird restorations to the latest avionics, all day, every day.

How It Works

Radio Hangar uses AI to produce content at a scale that would be impossible for a one-person operation. The AI writes scripts. Text-to-speech renders the audio. The station streams 24/7 via AzuraCast.

This is not a secret. It is the entire point. AI is the medium that makes a one-pilot radio station possible. The editorial direction, topic selection, accuracy review, and brand voice all come from Matt and the editorial standards he set for the station.

Every segment credits its sources. Every article links to the original reporting. The AI writes the words, but the editorial judgment is human.

The Shows

Radio Hangar runs five shows, each with a distinct focus and voice:

The Hangar covers aviation history and storytelling. Warbird restorations, legendary pilots, famous flights, and the stories behind the aircraft that shaped aviation.

Cleared Direct covers aviation technology and innovation. Avionics, electric aircraft, space crossover, ADS-B, weather tech, and startup spotlights.

Traffic Pattern covers flight training. Training tips, weather briefing walkthroughs, checkride prep, regulations explained in plain English, scenario-based decision making, and the mistakes student pilots actually make. Training content is reviewed for accuracy by Matt Carlson (private pilot).

Ramp Check covers the aviation news of the day. Headlines from AVweb, AOPA, EAA, and the FAA, with context a pilot would care about.

Crosswind features discussion segments where hosts debate aviation topics from different angles.

About Matt Carlson

Matt is a private pilot, the founder of Radio Hangar, and the operator behind three businesses: Grow Space Vertical Farms, Platinum Systems (an IT services company founded in 1997), and Southport AI (an AI and automation consultancy).

He built Radio Hangar as a passion project because aviation content deserves better than what exists today. Matt reviews all flight training content for accuracy, sets the editorial direction for the station, records occasional live segments, and handles guest interviews.

Radio Hangar is supported by AviationSoul.com, a gear and apparel brand for aviation enthusiasts. AviationSoul is Matt’s angel investment, not a paid advertiser. The integration is organic, not transactional.
